Re:Form 0.8.10 Alpha is mostly about speed. Live Topology now grows a sculpt to 12 million triangles on Pro, twice the old limit, and each dab does less work. The studio starts faster, big saves no longer freeze it, and STL import and export are on the Free plan. The panel and the options bar are calmer to read, and the left tool rail explains every tool. Paint can now glow, and two new paint brushes fill a rectangle or a circle with a soft edge.
What version is Re:Form on now?
Re:Form is on v0.8.10 Alpha as of October 25, 2026. The release raises the Free plan to 12,582,912 triangles, takes Live Topology to 12,000,000 triangles on every plan, opens STL to every plan, speeds up the studio's start and its saves, adds an optional Fast navigation mode, and tidies the right panel, the options bar and the left tool rail.
To update, reload the page. There is nothing to install, and your saved projects and autosaves carry over. If a newer version goes live while the studio is open, the update bar now has a Save now button, so you can save before you reload. If you haven't tried Re:Form yet, open the studio in your browser. The Free plan needs only an account, with no card.
How many triangles does the Free plan sculpt now?
12,582,912, about 12.5 million, for the whole project: every layer added together. That is four Subdivides of a new sphere. In 0.8.9 the Free plan stopped at 4 million. Pro still goes to 80 million, with the commercial license.
How far does Live Topology go now?
Live Topology now grows a sculpt up to 12,000,000 triangles, on every plan. In 0.8.9 it stopped at 6 million. On the Free plan the whole project still stays within Free's 12,582,912 triangles.
The bigger limit came with lighter dabs. A Live Topology dab now works only on the triangles under the brush, not on the whole mesh. The mesh is split into blocks, and a dab looks only at the blocks the brush reaches. The dabs of one frame also go to the graphics card together. Measured graphics card time for one dab, on every pass:
| Mesh size | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| 1.45 million triangles | 1.14 ms | 0.96 ms |
| 12 million triangles | 3.47 ms | 0.68 ms |
The sculpt you get is the same as before. Live Topology also has its own box in the Topology section now, with the switch called Live Topology. The subdivision and detail guide covers when to use it and when to subdivide instead.
Can I use STL on the Free plan?
Yes. From Re:Form 0.8.10, STL import and export work on every plan, beside OBJ. GLB and FBX stay Pro.
STL keeps no smoothing, so an STL export writes the same triangles whether the model is shown smooth or flat. An imported STL sculpts like any other mesh. The Free plan's limit still applies to an import: a file that would take the project past 12,582,912 triangles is refused with the numbers.
Does the studio start faster?
Yes. The studio used to build all of its graphics programs before it showed anything. Now each one is built when it is first needed, and the rest are built quietly a few seconds after the first frame, so a tool's first use does not wait for them.
| Before | After | |
|---|---|---|
| First visit: the new sphere appears | about 8 s | about 1.7 s |
| Later visits: the loading screen clears | about 2.2 s | about 1.4 s |
Firefox also no longer shows the studio unstyled for a moment when you reload the page. The styles now load before anything in the page is drawn.
Do big sculpts still freeze when they save?
Far less. Saving a big sculpt, whether an autosave, a Timeline copy or a save to your account, no longer holds the studio still for long. At 12 million triangles the longest pause went from about 12 seconds to under a fifth of a second. At 50 million it went from about 0.9 seconds to 0.2 seconds. The Timeline's step pictures and the autosave thumbnails are now made in the background.
What is Fast navigation?
Fast navigation lowers the viewport's resolution while you orbit, pan or zoom, but only when the view is drawing slowly: in steps, down to half at most, so the view moves more smoothly on big meshes. It goes sharp again the moment you stop. Strokes, renders and captures are not affected.
It is off by default. Turn it on in Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Graphics ▸ Fast navigation.
What changed in the studio's layout?
Nothing moved and every control does what it did. The changes are in how things read:
- The options bar is grouped. Home, Persp, Ortho, Refs, View and Fit are one group, and there is clear space between the groups. A button that is on is a soft tint instead of a solid block.
- On/off options are tick boxes. In the right panel every on/off option is a plain row with a small tick box on the right.
- Sliders show their value on the right. Each slider has its name on the left, its value on the right and the track below.
- Rarely used sections start folded. Paint and Mask by curvature and by occlusion start closed and remember being opened.
- The left rail explains its tools. Hover a tool on the left rail, or reach it with the keyboard, and a card shows its name, its current key and one line on what it does. A key you change in Preferences shows on the card at once. The card never shows during a stroke or a drag, or on a touch screen.
What's new for painting?
- Emission. The Paint section has an Emission slider and an Emission tick box beside Colour, Rough and Metal. Painted colour with emission glows in every shading mode. Type a number above 1 into its value, up to 10, for a brighter glow.
- A real glow. In Lit, in render images and in turntables rendered in Lit, emissive paint throws a soft glow around it, the same share of the picture in the viewport and in a 4K render. Dark colours glow as well as light ones. The Bloom slider sets how strong it is.
- Paint Rect and Paint Circle. Two new paint brushes: drag a rectangle, or a circle from its centre, and everything inside is painted, right through the model. Edge blur in the Paint panel softens the edge, Strength sets the opacity, and Ctrl paints the Secondary colour. One Undo takes it back.
- No banding in Lit. A slow painted fade in Lit no longer shows stripes. The picture gets a very fine grain, and the eye reads the fade as smooth.
- Full strength means full strength. Wet Mix now starts at 0, so a Paint stroke at Strength 1 covers fully.
What else changed in 0.8.10?
- The whole project counts on Free. The Free plan's 12,582,912 triangles are now the whole project's, every layer added together, shown or hidden. Duplicating, adding layers, arrays, imports and the rest stop with the numbers when they would go past it. Merging layers adds nothing, so it no longer stops. A project already over the limit still opens and sculpts.
- No plan picker after signing up. A new account goes straight to the start screen on Free. Account ▸ Upgrade to Pro is there when you want it.
- What's new on the start screen. The What's new card sits beside the project browser instead of over the canvas, lists ten things, and links to this post. Closing it hides it until the next reload.
- Tell us how it's going. After a while of sculpting, a small card in the corner asks how Re:Form is so far, with stars and an optional comment. Not now closes it.
- Help when WebGPU is missing. A browser that cannot run Re:Form now says so on the sign-in screen, with the steps for that browser and a link to the WebGPU fix guide.
- Alt in Firefox. Letting go of Alt in the studio no longer opens Firefox's menu bar and pushes the studio down. In a text field Alt still belongs to the browser.
- The new rabbit. Re:Form's rabbit is redrawn, everywhere it appears.
- Smoother edges in Lit. Lit is anti-aliased below 30 million triangles, like the other shading modes.
- Type past a slider's end. Many sliders take a typed value above their top: the light intensities, Exposure, Bloom, Emission, the Extract and Shell Extrude thicknesses, distances and smoothing, the transform steps, and more. Angles, counts and resolutions still stop at their ends.
- Cleaner Extract edges. Extract has a Detail slider, its rim is an even hem without pinches, and it no longer folds or splits on the symmetry seam.
- Turn step in half degrees. Transform ▸ Turn step goes in steps of 0.5°, so 2.5° is possible.
- Array. The Array preview has no wireframe over it, and its Angle reads in degrees, up to 360°.
What was fixed?
- Alpha Capture Cancel. Cancel in Alpha Capture no longer opens the alpha library, unless you started the capture from inside it.
- Timeline steps. The Timeline's steps are clearly apart at every zoom.
- Mask Blur. Blur softens the mask evenly. On a low-poly model it spread in some places and not others.
- Seams in Ortho. Surfaces that cross each other on one layer no longer tear along a sawtooth in Ortho.
- The working card. Uploading…, Saving… and Remeshing… sit in the middle of the viewport, not of the window.
- The triangle count. The count in the corner shows your plan's limit by its color only, amber and then red, without the "/ 4M" beside it. On Free it follows the whole project's total.
What should I know before relying on it?
- Re:Form is in alpha. Things change between releases. Browser autosave and saves to your account protect your work, and the status bar tells you which of the two holds your latest change.
- Fast navigation is off for now. It is there to try on big meshes, and you can switch it off again at any time.
The previous release notes are in what's new in Re:Form 0.8.9 Alpha. The plans are compared on the pricing page: Pro is $9.99 a month or $99 a year and sculpts up to 80 million triangles. The usual questions, including which browsers run Re:Form, are on the FAQ page.
FAQ
How many triangles can Live Topology handle?
Up to 12,000,000 triangles on every plan, up from 6,000,000 in 0.8.9. On the Free plan the whole project stays within Free's 12,582,912 triangles. Each dab works only on the triangles under the brush, so a dab at 12 million costs about the same as one on a much smaller mesh.
Which file formats does the Free plan import and export?
OBJ and STL, both ways. GLB and FBX import and export, and .clay project files on your computer, are Pro. Saving to your account and the browser autosaves work on every plan.
How do I turn on Fast navigation?
Open Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Graphics ▸ Fast navigation and switch it on. The viewport then draws at a lower resolution while the view moves, when it is drawing slowly, and sharp again when it stops. It is off by default.
